It's strange that on the examples I've seen, the hole is tapped for the screw in the bottom casting, but the frog isn't. In other words, the frog does not mate with the bottom casting over the entire area of the frog's bottom. It is is the larger if the two. With the iron secured to the frog, it follows, then, that the iron likewise moves closer to or farther from the mouth.
